Welcome back to the second half the Spring Term, an extremely short half term! I hope you all enjoyed your week and a day, feeling rested and full of beans.
We have an exciting half term ahead, as we are going to pitch to the Manager and Assistant Manager of Fred Olsen’s Travel Agents in Colchester in order to try and win the prize. The challenge is to develop the ‘most perfect New Zealand experience.’ The winning team’s work this term is being prominently displayed in Fred Olsen’s window in Sir Isaac’s walk. Each team will face stiff competition from the rest of their class as well as Classes 3 and 4. Good luck everybody!
Class 5 is also going to try and learn enough guitar chords to accompany the school during the Easter Service – another enjoyable challenge!
We do have a heavy half term preparing for our Sats which are only a few weeks after Easter. You have all worked extremely hard and I know that you will continue to produce your best work.
P.E will be Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons from this week and homework is still given out Mondays and due in on Fridays. This blog contains the weekly homework and is updated on Mondays.
Homework  24/02/15

Due in on Friday as homework will be given out on Mondays.
English
You have a challenge this week of a crossword of words containing silent letters. Good luck!
I am still expecting a book review each week on the blog when you have finished a Bug Club book or an actual book. If it is a Bug Club book, please say so.  L6 books may take a fortnight to complete. This is not differentiated as you are all challenged by sneaky silent letters and the Sats spelling test is bound to contain a few!
Maths - Neolithic and Bronze Groups
You have been allocated online homework involving mental calculations finding change in money transactions. This will speed up your number bond knowledge and it is a skill that you will repeat all your life. You also have an online video to watch to remind you how to complete short division with word problems using this method to complete.  You have Test C of Test 3 mental Thinking Things Through challenges.  Keep practicing your weakest tables to increase your total in the weekly times table challenge. Ask to be tested at home.
Iron Group
Log on to mymaths, selecting secondary and click on number. Select money and finance and scroll down to the bottom, budgeting. Follow the lessons and complete the homework. You click on the option that allows you to complete it for fun without a password and it will mark it for you too. Write in your homework book how you got on when it has marked it and record your answer to lesson 3 and 4. Did you calculate them correctly? TTT!
Please ensure that you have completed any backlog of online maths challenges.

Maths this week was probability
- oh the excitement of working out the probability of Christmas hat colours!

Will it be red, blue, orange or yellow? You had worked on probability
challenges all week  - you deserved a bit of fun but with a serious mathematical challenge too.

Pancake Races - brilliant!

Here they come!

It's not as easy as it looks.

  1. The secret garden home book review:
This book was full of facts and I learnt so much from it. My favourite part was when the girl (Mary) saw a bulbous man towering over her and he was more scared of her than she was of him! I would defiantly recommend this book so therefore I rate this book 5/5.

  2. My book from bug club 'Dead Adventurous' told us loads of facts about history so I really enjoyed it. I know there are lots of books in the 'Dead' series so I advise you to go and check them out. It was easily understandable which is very impressive.
I would rate this book 5 of 5.

  3. I have read the book The Long Haul by Jeff Kinney, which is not a Bug Club book. This book is another book in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. This time, Greg is on a road trip which doesn't go as planned! No spoilers! I rate this book 5/5!

  4. Girl Online by Zoe Sugg book review:
I have just finished this amazing book of love, heartbreak, disaster, friendship and trust. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend this book to girls. This book is about a girl named Penny (whom I am coming as on world book day next Thursday) who has an anonymous blog where she shares all her feelings. At school she is having a terrible time until her parents whisk her away to New York where she meats her soul mate, later to find he was keeping a secret. Suddenly her blog becomes exposed and everyone knows its her. How will she overcome this disaster? You'll have to read the book to find out!

  7. bug club book : Batman comic

I think that this book was entertaining but was very easy. This book included lots of punctuation and vocabulary what made it more amusing,I think Mrs Bowls would like some of this book but not all the super heroes. I would recommend this book to Lee because he likes action figurers and all that stuff. I would give this book 3/5.
