On Monday, while some of us were singing at the O2 (see school gallery), the rest of us had a chance to celebrate Chinese New Year with Mrs Martin. We got to find out about the animals involved in Chinese New Year, experiment with chopsticks as well as make some Chinese Dragons!
On Tuesday we were all back together to look into our art topic on American pop art. We looked into the works of Roy Lichtenstein and had a go at copying some of his famous 'cartoon style' images.
On Wednesday and Thursday, while Miss Vidler was out doing learning conferences, Mrs Martin helped us discover sacred texts of major world religions. We looked at the Sikh Guru Granth Sahib, the Islamic Qu'ran and the Jewish Torah Scrolls. We even designed and made our own stunning Torah Scrolls too!
By Friday we were back to Pop Art, this time looking at the style of artist Andy Warhol. As he often created prints of people or objects that reflected the culture of 1960's America, Miss Vidler gave us the challenge of creating our own Andy Warhol style artwork, but based on a character, product or logo that reflected the culture of 2016. We have created artwork involving everything from Xbox controllers, to the Simpsons, to our favourite sweets! (They're not quite completed yet - so watch this space for photographs of the finished articles after half term!)
We also had a chance to share our homework about American music. Yet again the standard for this homework was very impressive - here are just some examples of what we produced!
Hope you all have a wonderful and restful half term break - ready for more studies around America and our class book 'Holes' when we all return!
