Welcome to
Class 5 and the Autumn Term! I hope that you all had a thoroughly enjoyable
holiday.
We have an
exciting term ahead. Mrs Martin will be with us throughout the week and Mrs
Dixon will teach you on Fridays. Our topic until Christmas is conflict throughout
the ages, starting eleven thousand years ago with the Stone Age, moving through
to the Bronze Age, the Roman period and Colchester’s important role in that
part of our history. Our school trip this term is to the newly opened
Colchester Castle where we will be bringing history alive in an exciting day of
activities, challenges and fun. Continuing with our local history we will learn
about the First World War and its impact on Fordham followed by studying WWII.
Science this
term will link closely with our topic involving cross curricular skills such as
maths and English. P.E will be on Mondays and Thursdays. We are fortunate to
have a professional local squash instructor to teach us squash on Mondays this
half term. Please ensure kits are in school all week, especially on a Monday as
you won’t want to miss your lesson! We have an exciting opportunity to work
with The Roman Festival this month during our music lessons, learning about The
Soldier’s Tale by Stravinsky.
Homework
will be given out on Thursdays and due in on Tuesdays but can be handed in
earlier if completed! It will be in one exercise book and pride in presentation
is essential. We will be studying spellings and Year 6 phonics techniques for
life in class, so there will be no weekly spellings to learn this year.
Our Class 5
blog needs to read weekly as this will contain homework instructions which may
involve online study as well as class news and photos.
Year 6 is a
challenging yet exciting year and I’m looking forward to the fun and enjoyment
we will have whilst developing and learning to prepare for Year 7!
Best regards
Mrs Bowles

I thought this book was really interesting I would like to read it again another time. I think snorri and Halfden we're not very good brothers in the first part of the story but at the end they all had a feast with the gods, and they become good brothers. My favirot part of it was when the kraken, got hold of the villagers and was about to eat them.
