How is it May already?
Class 5 have been doing an abundance of work, as well as plenty of revision! Fortunately we have still managed to fit in a lot of fun learning between all of this too!
A few weeks ago we had a chance to be bridge builders. Studying the structures of famous bridges, we then had to try and recreate our own for the Billy Goats Gruff to be able to stand on. Next time we need to aim for more style though!!
We completed our newspaper writing topic last week too, and were fortunate enough to have Mr Jones come in and tell us what it is like being a journalist for a national newspaper. Hopefully we have inspired some future broadcasters!
We have also had a chance to become game designers. We were introduced to an ipad app called 'Pixel Press Floors' which allows you to design your own platform video game. It got quite complicated and sometimes frustrating, but some of us came up with some great ideas for fairy tale video games!
In Science, Year 6 learnt about microbes this week. We conducted an experiment to see how fast yeast grows, and proved that they also release gas during this process of fermentation by putting balloons on the top of the container and watching them inflate! (And the yeast even continued growing after the experiment, look at what Miss Vidler had to tidy up before she went home on Thursday on the last photo!)
Of course we fitted in revision as well, but Miss Vidler tried her hardest to put some fun into this. In maths we revised measurement questions by following a treasure hunt, where the answers led us to the next clue!
This week our creative homework was also due in. As year 5 and 6 seems to be so dominated by maths and grammar at the moment, we were given a chance to celebrate some of the other talents that we have with our 'I am awesome because...' homework. We had a chance to learn a lot about each other, and discovered some hidden talents some of us didn't know about!
What an awesome couple of weeks it has been!
Reminders for next week:
Year 5 - don't forget you are off on a trip to the woods on Thursday, so get those permission slips in! All the work you will be doing while Year 6 are busy will be linked with forest skills.
Year 6 - don't forget breakfast club is available in the hall on Monday to Thursday from 8.15am onwards and is free of charge. Also if you want your face painted on treat day please bring in your permission slip so we won't scare your parents too much!!
For many of you next week will be your first experience of formal tests. You have all worked so incredibly hard for these and should already be very proud of yourselves - I know I am! And remember if you start getting stressed, have a look at your 'I am awesome' homework, as this will remind you that you really are awesome - and you don't need to take a test to prove that :-)
Have a lovely weekend, I'm off to celebrate my birthday!
Miss Vidler
Happy Birthday Miss. Vidler!! Be positive Year 6, you are all 'awesome' and we are all incredibly proud of you. Do your best in the tests and show how much you have learnt.
