Video killed the radio star

We have been doing plenty of recording in Class 5 this week!

In theme, we have started looking at the history of music in America, particularly the history of slave work songs and how they have influenced many of the music genres that we enjoy today. In Monday's lesson we learnt about African music, as this influenced the music of the slaves. We learnt this Ghanaian call-and-response song, 'Oleo' in a 3-part harmony.
On Tuesday we started learning about some of the genres that appeared due to slave songs, starting with gospel music. We learnt some gospel tunes to sing in groups, and performed them at the same time, as they have a counterpoint melody.
In English, we have started our unit on writing arguments. We had a great morning on Wednesday, creating an argument based on the TV show 'Room 101'. We decided on what we would like to get rid of and had to create a 3-part argument to persuade others. This concluded with a lucky few of us appearing in our own Class 5 Room 101 episode (which, unfortunately, are too long to be uploaded on the website - so here are some still images instead!)

In maths we have concluded our division work and we are now focusing on fraction calculations.

Creative homework has been set this week based on our music topic, which is due in on the last day before half term break.

Hope you enjoy watching our little stars in action!

  4. I really enjoyed Room 101 because it made me think about what I would have put in. I chose burgers! I also enjoyed the gospel music because the songs had good rhythm. Looking forward to next week. WP
