Welcome Class 5 2015/2016!
I can't believe we have only been back at school a week - we have fitted in so much so far!
In English we have started looking at Greek myths in detail, picking up on the key themes to help us when we write our own. We are already enjoying finding out about what the Greek Gods got up to, the amazing creatures and monsters and actions of our Greek heroes!
Completing our Greek Myth analysis sheets
We have been warming up our maths skills with some place value work this week. We had a lot of fun learning about multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 by getting numbers to 'move their place' on seats! As well as looking at some card games at the beginning of the week, we enjoyed a rounding game at the end of it - all you need are a pack of cards, some dice and some paper and you can play them again at home!
Using chairs and children as a real life place value board
It seemed logical to start our theme of Ancient Greece by making sure we knew where and when the Ancient Greeks were. Some of us found our map-reading skills a little rusty when we had to locate Ancient Greek cities on a blank sheet, but with perseverance we got there in the end! We are becoming more confident in choosing our level and designing our own way of presenting our work too.
Year 6 designing an experiment to prove light travels in straight lines
