Your homework task is to read Tomb Raiders by
Monday. Take your time and read a chapter at a time if you wish, as you have an
unusual week with most of you visiting your new schools. When you have
completed the book, explain to me on the blog why you think discovering
Tutankhamun’s tomb was so important historically. Also, do you think the curse
of the mummy could really have existed? What would have been a more logical
explanation? Publish a short blurb blog. Remember to click ‘anonymous’ but to
write your name at the end of your blurb.
Maths
Complete the angles task in your A4 maths books
using a sharp pencil and a protractor.

| How did the iron filings react to the magnet? |
I've just read this book and it is really interesting, I liked it alot !
ReplyDeleteI think that discovering Tutankhamen's tomb was so historically important because Tutankhamen was a Pharaoh, and he was probably one of the Pharaohs left to be found, due to tomb raiders. Also he was quite famous, ( for only living to the age of 19 ) so when a tomb raider would find him and the items inside, they would get lot's of praise and money ! Lastly, I'm not sure about the curse of the mummy being true or not, but carter and his workers didn't get affected by any curse, but it might not say in the book, so I'm not sure.
I really enjoyed the book I have just read, it was really understandable !
Evie x
I agree with you Evie! It was clear and easily understood - pitched just right. Extremely informative. Well done.
DeleteI am scare to go in to class 6because off the hard work
ReplyDeleteThere's no need to be scared, we'll be there to help you. Remember what Mrs Bowles said, it's good to be 'stuck', it gives you the opportunity to learn something new and that's exciting!
ReplyDeleteha lol
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I loved the photos of you all at the finish line after the Leavers' Race. I hope you all had a great time at Stanway for those of you who went. We look forward to seeing you all back on Monday.
ReplyDeleteFor our English homework we have been asked to read and answer questions on the internet about the ancient Egyptians, here are my answers.
ReplyDeleteI think that discovering Tutankamun 's tomb was so important as he died due to getting murdered ,and that at the age of 19 being a boy pharaoh, people would want to see him in his tomb due to his importance and his unusual way of death.
I think that the curse of the mummy did not exist as I feel that a mummy could die through her age and health problems not by being cursed!
I hope that I have answered these questions in a clear way that you will understand, I feel that the book choice was really good, I love the camera taken pictures that helped me a lot to understand the book.

After reading the book Tomb Raiders I found it amazing how even when experts stated that there were no more tombs to be discovered Howard Carter still continued the search on finding the Boy Kings (Tutankhamen's) tomb.
DeleteAfter years of searching in the scorching hot weather of Egypt nothing was found and time was running out... Until a ordinary water boy discovered sixteen stone steps leading down to the great Pharos Tomb!!!
Finally about the ancient Egyptian curse, many people believe in this however I don't. This is because Howard Carter seemed to be unharmed with this curse after he went into the tomb, maybe the unfortunate people who did die was killed by all the dust and bacteria inside the tombs.
I really enjoyed this book and all the information about Tutankhamen's Discovery!!
Lorixx
Excellent choice of language Lori. I'm glad you enjoyed the book.
DeleteNext time - be careful of two vowels together, remeber to use 'an.'
Well done.
I have just finished reading Tomb Raiders and I now understand more.
ReplyDeleteI think discovering Tutankhamuns tomb was one of the most archaeological discoveries as it helped us learn more about the ancient Egyptians and their beliefs about the Afterlife. Also we now know more about how the Egyptians buried a body. I think that Tutankhamun is so famous as he was , at the age of 9, the pharaoh of Egypt.
When Tutankhamuns tomb was first discovered there was a rumours about the tomb being cursed , as an hour after Howard Carter had been in tomb his pet bird was eaten by a python. Also I think that it's quite extraordinary that a water boy found the steps to the tomb!
I really enjoyed this book and learnt a lot of information I didn't know before.
Isobel :)
I'm not surprised that you know a great deal more know, it is an informative and interesting book, pitched just right Izzy. Well done, an interesting comment.
DeleteAfter reading the book 'Tomb Raders' I found it very intreeging (SP) how the experts stated that there was no more tombs to be discovered but Howard Carter still continued/persivered to find the boy kings/ Tutankhamen's tomb.
ReplyDeleteAfter years of searching a regular waterboy discovered the sixteen steps that lead to the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb.
I personally don't believe in the ancient Egyptian curse because to me its more of a superstition. The people that died obviosly caught an illness from the humid air inside the tomb, I mean really!? What do you expect from a tomb! Its underground and the seals don't clense the air nor does the dust that builds up over time. Also an illness could of lingered on in the tombs.
I really enjoy this book and ths website!
Freya :D
I spelt 'Raiders' wrong. Whoops!
DeleteYour comment Freya has made me smile. I do agree with you, I personally would not have wanted to breathe in that air and dust from so many years before. I'm glad you found it so interesting.Well done.
DeleteI thought the book Tomb Raiders was an interesting book and it helped me understand a lot more about the Egyptians.
ReplyDeleteI think finding Tutankhamen's tomb was so important as he was probably the youngest pharaoh ever to die being at the age of just 19. Also, it was an important find as all the experts believed that there were no more pharaoh tombs to be found and of all people an ordinary water boy proved them all wrong!
However, I do not believe in the curse as the water boy did not suffer in any way due to the tomb. I think that the people who did die must of caught a disease - after all it was really old and dusty.
I really liked this book and it has helped me lots.
Lewis
I'm glad the book taught you much more than you already knew Lewis. It is pitched just right to keep you interested, isn't it? Your comment is of a high standard, connectives, hyphen, punctuation, well done!
DeleteAfter reading the book I felt that I knew a lot more than I did about the Egyptians
ReplyDeleteThan I did before.
The discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb was huge as he was most likely the youngest pharaoh that had ever lived at only the age of 19.
It was an important find due to people thought there was no more tombs left to discover and out of everyone a water boy proved them wrong.
I don't believe in as such as the pharaohs curse because the water boy did not get affected by it so is there even such thing as the pharaohs curse ?
I really enjoyed reading the book and want to read it again !
Edward
After reading 'Tomb Raider' I now know more about the finding of Tutankhamen's tomb . I found it extremely interesting how everyone thought Howard Carter found the tomb, however it was the water boy who found the fist stone step leading down to the Boy Kings (Tutankhamens) tomb.
ReplyDeleteExperts stated that there were absolutly NO more tombs to be discovered in The Valley Of The Kings. Nevertheless Howard Carter was adament that Tutankhamen s tomb was hidden, still waiting to be discovered
After years of searching in the boiling atmosphere Howard Carter was short of money and time was drifting away. Consequently more workers were asked to help;including the water boy. Suddenly... a smooth surface was dug up from beneath the un even earth. This small surface was sure to be man made. He continued to dig faster and faster until the smooth stone step was revealed. He caught Mr Howards attention and hurried him to the premises.
After digging for untold amounts of time 16 steps appeared leading down to the great Pharaoh of Egypts tomb!
As Lady Evelyn brought up there is said to be a ancient curse for all those who dare to enter the tomb. However I don't believe this curse to be true because Howard carter was fine after entering the tomb, the other archeologists may of been harmed as of the dangerous bacteria.
Do you believe in the curse?
Ella
I enjoyed reading Tomb Raiders as I find Egyptian history very fascinating.
ReplyDeleteTutankhamen was Pharaoh or King at age nine and only nineteen when murdered. No one knew where he was buried and the tomb raiders searched for him.
Some people believe in the curse of the mummy, but when Howard Carter went into the tomb he was unharmed, so I don't believe in it. It's more likely that people died sometimes after going in the tombs because of perhaps breathing in germs and becoming ill or maybe being attacked by a snake!
